Kings Ridge Home Owners Association

Homeowners re-elected two board members, elected one new board member and heard community reports about the past year from current board members and committee chairs during the April 27 Kings Ridge HOA annual meeting at Parr Library. In addition, two guest presentations were provided about the proposed City of Plano and Lewisville ISD bonds to be voted upon Saturday, May 6 at Parr Library along with races for mayor and city council.

Board president Glenn Barlow and board member-at-large Sandeep Srivastava were re-elected to a two-year board term, and Linda Schuler was elected as the HOA’s first female board member, also to a two-year term.

The three elected board members join Paul Nolte and Kevin Owensby who enter the second year of their two-year board term. Greg Urech rolled off the board after having served a two-year term, the most recent as treasurer. The five board members will soon meet to discern which specific roles they will fulfill for the upcoming year.

Glenn and Sandeep discussed financial and operational highlights of the past year, talked about the strength of the HOA that led to it being awarded just one of four 2016 BEST Neighborhood Platinum level awards in all of Plano, and answered questions from homeowners. HOA committee chairs covered key accomplishments and upcoming objectives for communications, social, landscaping, safety and architectural control.

City of Plano Bond

Karen Rhodes-Whitley, the City of Plano budget director, and two members of her team, discussed the proposed $224 million bond referendum that involves six distinct propositions for various public improvements in the city.

The improvements, according to Karen, include construction and reconstruction of streets; screening walls, sidewalks and alleys; construction and renovation of public safety facilities (including a northwest Plano police substation); park improvements; recreation center improvements and renovations; the expansion, equipping and furnishing of Plano Public Library branches and restoration of the Collinwood House and other Historic Preservation structures. Lewisville ISD Bond

HOA communications chair and former board member, Bill Kula, spoke on behalf of the Lewisville ISD Facilities Advisory Committee on which he served with 79 other Denton County residents to assemble the proposed $737.5 million school bond supported by the LISD Board of Trustees and staff.

The improvements, according to Bill, favorably impact all schools throughout the 13-city district that serves 53,000 students. The bond focuses on technology enhancements; existing facilities; new facilities; creation of a new career center and expansion of others to ease over-crowding and wait lists of 600-plus students; athletics; fine arts; safety and security.

He said the no-frills package addresses an aging school district that is still growing with a focus on needed reparation and reconstruction of facilities that are worn down or run the course of their life cycle.
